Freight from China: questions to ask before requesting a quote
“How much does shipping from China cost?” is a useful first question, but a price per kilogram often is not enough. A meaningful comparison needs details of the goods, origin and destination, included stages and required documents.

Prepare the cargo information
Provide the product name and description, package count, weight, dimensions or volume, value, origin city and delivery address or city. Mention batteries, liquids, fragile items or other special features: these may affect transport requirements and route selection.
If the batch is not ready, start with approximate information from the supplier. The final price and timeline may change once packaging, actual weight and volume are confirmed.
Compare more than the price
Ask whether collection from the supplier, warehouse handling, packaging, transport and final delivery are included. Discuss potential extra costs, documents, insurance and what happens if goods are delayed or damaged. Service scope depends on the route and chosen arrangement.
Understand the sales terms too: who arranges and pays for each stage, and where risk transfers. The International Chamber of Commerce explains Incoterms® here: https://iccwbo.org/business-solutions/incoterms-rules/ . Delivery terms should be agreed for the specific contract and transaction.
How to choose a route
Air, road, rail and sea freight serve different needs. The choice depends on the product, budget, urgency, origin and route availability. Once cargo details are known, comparing suitable options is more useful than assuming one mode is always best.
Horizon Trans helps discuss supply arrangements from China and select a solution for the specific cargo. Price and timing are determined after the terms are clarified.
