Why inspect goods in China before dispatch? An introduction to quality control
You liked the sample, the supplier has sent photographs of the completed batch and the cargo is waiting for dispatch. Does the entire batch match what you agreed? Correcting discrepancies is usually harder after transport, so it is better to discuss inspections in advance.

What to agree before production
Quality needs specific criteria. For one product, exact dimensions are critical; for another, it may be the mechanism, fabric shade, accessories or labelling. Record the specifications, appearance, quantity, packaging and acceptable tolerances. Where possible, keep an approved sample and written agreements.
Agree in advance who will inspect the goods and when, how much of the batch will be examined, how findings will be recorded and what happens if discrepancies are found. Packaging checks and product sampling answer different questions; inspecting every unit may require a different budget and timeline.
What can be checked before dispatch
Depending on the goods and the agreed programme, checks can cover package count, appearance, dimensions, completeness, functionality, packaging and labelling. Photographs, videos and a clear report help document what was checked, how many units were examined and what issues were found.
If problems are found, the response depends on the agreement with the supplier. Clarification, sorting, replacement or correction may be needed. An inspection does not guarantee the absence of every defect, particularly when only a sample is examined.
